Symantec set to accumulate mobile management vendor Nukona

Symantec is to amass mobile application management vendor Nukona to extend its mobility portfolio.

The company claimed that the purchase will extend its enterprise mobility portfolio to incorporate a cross-platform mobile application protection solution. This can reportedly help IT organisations protect and isolate corporate data and applications across both corporate owned and personally owned devices.

Following the purchase of mobile device management vendor Odyssey Software, Symantec said that Nukona will provide an innovative solution to help enterprises seamlessly distribute, secure and control applications and information without requiring them to control the devices.

Symantec said that the plan is to increase application protection that ‘wraps' both native and web-based apps with a management layer that permits IT to use security policies without requiring any changes to the applications. This would leave personal apps and activities untouched.

In addition, as Nukona's secure content library makes it possible for the safety and synchronisation of documents without risk of knowledge loss, Symantec will securely distribute and manage mobile applications and content to deal with corporate data security concerns around data leakage, encryption and authentication on a per-application basis, for both personal and company owned devices.

CJ Desai, senior vice chairman of the endpoint and mobility group at Symantec, said: “As the adoption of mobile devices and apps continues to grow at an unprecedented rate, one of several biggest challenges for purchasers is to give protection to and manage the native apps, data and environments of those devices.

“The acquisition of Nukona helps us further address the ‘Consumerisation of IT' and ‘Bring Your personal Device' trends by helping organisations protect and isolate corporate data and applications across both corporate owned and personally owned devices.”

The transaction is predicted to shut in April and is subject to customary closing conditions. The financial terms of the purchase aren't being disclosed.
