Stonesoft revamps security engine to behave as firewall, IPS or UTM

Stonesoft has launched a safety mechanism which can act as a standard or next-generation firewall and intrusion prevention system and a unified threat management product.

The Stonesoft Security Engine can act as one or several of those products simultaneously and is delivered through an integrated technology platform and managed via a single management centre.

Available from April, Stonesoft said that the engine delivers full-blown security capabilities, including best-of-breed data inspection, anti-evasion and whole situational and contextual awareness, to guard against even essentially the most advanced threats. It truly is available as a physical appliance, software or virtual solution.

According to the corporate, the engine revolutionises the delivery of network security by allowing customers to select the platform and capacity required, after which self-configure the product mode and security capabilities in keeping with their current needs. It allows the user to reconfigure and reuse the product as network and business demands evolve.

It also said that the engine eliminates the necessity to physically upgrade technologies and security products over the years because it automatically receives new safety features and function improvements.

Ilkka Hiidenheimo, CEO and founding father of Stonesoft, said the vision is to prevent approaching security as a hard and fast product or definition and, instead, offer solutions that experience the adaptability and scalability of a service.

“We have achieved this goal by creating something that may evolve, adapt, scale up and transform in time. These requirements mirror the feedback we've got received from customers for the decade,” he said.
