News briefly: this week\'s product releases

This week has seen a major variety of product releases on the RSA Conference and Mobile World Congress.

Here is a round-up of a few of the releases and news we heard about this week:

Certgate has announced that it has expanded its encryption and NFC capabilities to smartphones and tablets to feature functionality for access control, PKI, payment, data security and secure voice applications.

Trusted Logic Mobility and Wave have launched a combined solution that allows users to increase their security architectures, normally linked to their PC assets, to also cover mobile devices. Utilising the smartphone as a token to authenticate the user, the answer allows encrypted data held in a company notebook computer to be unlocked. That is enabled by secure software from Trusted Logic Mobility and a smartphone application developed by Wave for communication with the laptop in addition to the software to judge the smartphone's integrity.

Imation has introduced new purpose-built backup appliances designed to enable small- and medium-sized businesses to safeguard their valuable information with multiple levels of knowledge protection from a single backup infrastructure. It said that the DataGuard Model R4 and DataGuard Model T5R are appliances which utilise hard drives, removable RDX disk cartridges, replication and cloud storage. The appliances fit with many cloud storage APIs and, once a cloud backup is seeded by shuttling RDX cartridges, they support remote backups and users can automate protection since data backup to cloud storage is performed with none human intervention once configured.

My1login launched this week with an army-grade encryption ‘vault' where users can manage, store and safely share their logins, passwords and PINs using a free, highly secure, web-based interface. NaviSite launched a cloud-based desktop-as-a-service (DaaS) that permits organisations to deliver virtual desktop services to local and remote users from the cloud. Powered by its platform and Desktone, it allows IT departments to feature or remove desktops quickly and securely and enables organisations to scale in keeping with the immediate needs in their business.

McAfee has launched an enterprise solution offering real-time protection for business-critical databases. Named Database Activity Monitoring, it supports MySQL and Teradata databases as a way to ensure complete protection around the most well-liked database management systems. It's also integrated with McAfee's Vulnerability Manager for Databases and its ePolicy Orchestrator console.

NetIQ launched a safety information and event management (SIEM) solution named Sentinel 7 that it said readily adapts to dynamic enterprise environments and delivers the "actionable intelligence" that security professionals should quickly understand their threat posture and prioritise response.
