McAfee expands mobile management platform to deal with BYOD

McAfee has added updates to to deal with management (EMM) platform to permit for bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies.

Launched on the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona, McAfee said that it is a part of its vision of providing comprehensive mobile security and privacy protection for devices, data and apps in version 10 of its EMM platform.

The latest update includes significant security updates for enterprise customers to enable BYOD, with improved control to spot, secure and assign policies to both employee and business-owned smartphones and tablets.

McAfee said that the EMM software allows enterprises to present their employees mobile device choice while delivering secure and simple access to mobile corporate applications. New features and functionality also include sandboxing for email on iOS, blocking of iCloud backup and alertness blacklisting for Android and iOS.

It also said that next month, it plans to release an integrated secure container for Android that segregates corporate email, calendar and contacts from personal data in keeping with corporate security policies.

John Thode, executive vice-president and general manager of McAfee's consumer, mobile and small business unit, said: “Mobile devices are continuing to grow rapidly and became a staple in work life and play. Thus, consumers and organisations must ensure these devices are protected against device loss, data theft and malware that may be distributed via direct downloads, links, email attachments and text messaging.

“We're enthusiastic about our 2012 line-up of mobile security products and the recent features and functionally in an effort to help smartphone and tablet users experience a worry-free mobile computing experience.”
