The first 11 finalists for the united kingdom Cyber Security Challenge were confirmed.
A live malware test was completed at Sophos's headquarters in Abingdon, with 11 of the 30 entrants making it through to the Masterclass Final, because of be held in Bristol in March.
Competitors were tested on their analytical mind, attention to detail and talent to spot and resolve malicious code. Judy Baker, director of the Cyber Security Challenge, said: âWe were extremely impressed with the extent of talent on this competition.
âIt's clear the united kingdom has very skilled individuals inside the field of cyberspace, but many are unaware they've such abilities and know little in regards to the exciting job opportunities available. We've noticed through the challenge how surprised competitors are after they learn how well they've got done.â
Finishing in first place was software engineer Tim Pullen, who said that he had always been inquisitive about this area, and signing up for the Challenge was just for a little fun and a chance to be informed a chunk more about what the pros do for a living. âI can't wait to determine what the Challenge throws at us next,â he said.
The winners have all made it through to the HP- and Cassidian-run Masterclass, which requires candidates to take the abilities demonstrated in previous rounds and apply them in an ultra-realistic business setting.
All finalists will receive a year's subscription to the National Skills Academy for IT.
