Anonymous plans fresh offensive against Sony

The Anonymous group has announced plans to launch a fresh attack on Sony on Monday.

In punishment for supporting the controversial US Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), Anonymous said that it plans to plaster Sony's homepage with pirated music. Anonymous said that it plans to hack Sony.com and cargo the homepage with BitTorrent files that permit users to download copyright-protected music and films, it also plans to hit Sony Music's online store, reducing the price of songs to zero.

If it really is successful, personal details of company executives can also be plastered at the defaced homepage, in an act often called doxing.

Certain skilled hackers had been placed into elite, members-only teams called Eta, Theta and Zeta, that have been tasked with hacking into Sony's online stores so the payload can be uploaded.

Eta will try and eliminate price tags at the Sony store, Zeta will seek a way to upload the payload and redirect visitors to Sony sites to it while Theta will try to prevent Sony from rectifying the wear and tear.

The remainder Alpha, Beta, Delta and Gamma teams have developed the payload and are open for anyone to take part. Alpha is collating copyright-infringing torrents, Gamma works on doxing Sony executives and Delta is drafting an announcement.

Anonymous insiders offered few further information about the plan, beyond that the OpSony campaign hinges at the hackers' ability  to crack Sony's defences. Team Delta's draft press release was optimistic: “Last April, we took down the Playstation Network. We're firmly rooted on your servers and we will be able to, at will, take them down again.”
